Launch of the Green Hydrogen Sector Fund
LATU, together with MIEM and ANII, launched the Green Hydrogen Sector Fund, which aims to finance research, innovation and training projects on this subject. As a first measure, a call for projects will be launched through the contest modality.
Green hydrogen is produced from renewable sources and can be used as a fuel directly or mixed with other gases, as well as an input for the production of liquid fuels, or in the production of agrochemicals and others.
The ceremony held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at the Telecommunications Tower, was attended by the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Omar Paganini; the director of the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU), Gabriel Murara, and the president of the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), Flavio Caiafa.
During his speech, Paganini explained that the world is committed to the decarbonization of energy for different reasons, one of them referring to mitigating climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. He stressed: “a world based on renewable energies will be more stable and, probably, more equitable”.
Murara added: “LATU and its Foundation Latitud will actively participate in this fund, through applied research and the search for the development of new technologies linked to Green Hydrogen.”
The objective of the Green Hydrogen Sector Fund is to promote the first productive experiences of hydrogen and the generation of knowledge. In this regard, Caiafa, specified that research, innovation and training in the field will be promoted.
The first measure of this instrument will be a call to promote innovative projects to produce green hydrogen and derivatives.
Uruguay has conditions for the production of renewable wind and solar energy, which would allow, using these energy sources, the production of green hydrogen in a competitive way.
The development of this technology will allow the country to position itself as a producer and exporter of hydrogen and its derivatives.
