LATU’s CSR practice distinguished by DERES

DERES, the Uruguayan organization that gathers the companies that promote corporate social responsibility (CSR), awarded the best practices of 2016.

On December 19 took place the sixth edition of DERES award program, which distinguishes the best CSR practices of 2016. The program identifies five areas: ethics and corporate government, environment, value chain, community involvement, and quality of life and work policies.

DERES awarded 25 CSR actions. In this edition, two special merit awards were also given, one related to inspiring practices and the other regarding actions that improve competitiveness. DERES recognized Laboratorio Tecnológico del Uruguay (LATU) in the category ethics and corporate government for its practice Evaluar para aprender. Evaluación de impacto de intervenciones institucionales (see further information below). This action also received the two special distinctions (as inspiring practice and promoter of competitiveness), which makes it one of the three practices that obtained the triple honor.

The evaluators from the jury emphasized the methodology used by LATU, the planning and the documentation of the process, among others. Apart from this, one of the evaluators stated that the implementation of impact evaluation, such as the one carried out by LATU, contributes to the improvement of management, increase of knowledge and its spreading, and creates the opportunity to improve profitability through saving resources.

About the awarded practice

Evaluar para aprender. Evaluación de impacto de intervenciones institucionales is an action that LATU carries out since 2012. Its goal is to evaluate the impact of the interventions designed and implemented by the organization. Impact evaluation is defined as the measurement of the changes observed in the target population after LATU’s actions. These findings allow to identify development opportunities for the intervention and for the organization’s management system.
